The Police Training College, West Bengal, was set up on 11th April, 1948 at Barrackpore lying on the bank of River Ganges. The Nissan Hut structures left behind by the British Army after the 2nd world war- II were utilized on adhoc basis for the official works and accommodation of the trainees and instructors. Subsequently, the following Subsidiary Training Center have been established under the control of PTC, Barrackpore. The primary objective of the Police Training College, West Bengal, is to impart Basic Training to the officers and men of West Bengal Police and Kolkata Police to prepare them in such a manner so that they achieve the desired level of Physical Fitness, Mental Alertness and Professional Skill to serve the people of the state with courage, conviction, uprightness and dedication.

Subsidiary Training Center are

1. STC , Krishnanagar at the HQ of SAP 9th Bn.
2. STC , Kasba at the HQ of SAP 4th Bn.
3. STC , Halisahar.

 Mission of the Police Training College is to provide training to the Police officers and men of West Bengal Police and instill values of the highest standards and the best code of conduct so that they serve the citizens of the community with the highest professionalism.

1.The purpose of the Police Training College in Barrackpore is to train :

a) Deputy Superintendent of Police
 b) Sub-Inspectors of Police of both Armed & Unarmed branches
c) Constables of West Bengal Police
                   
B. West Bengal Correctional Services
C. West Bengal Excise Dept.
D. West Bengal Customs Dept.
E. Sub Inspector & Sergeants of West Bengal & Kolkata Police
F. Wireless Officers of West Bengal & Kolkata Police

        The college will endeavor to inculcate in them the integrity of the highest order, sensitivity to the aspiration of the people, respect for the Human Rights and sensitiveness for the special rights of the weaker sections of the society.  

        The college has also the objective to arrange In-Service training for the officers and men to make them aware of the social changes, the changes in legislations and to bring about a change in their aptitude for serving the people better.

 

        The college  maintains close contacts with the S.V.P. National Police Academy and other Police Training Institutions of the country for the improvement of its training methodology and training curriculum.

          The college will be a centre for assessment of training needs of the state and make sincere efforts for the improvement of the functioning of the officers and men in the field through continuous evaluation of their performance during practical training.
